Denmark at COP26
"All generations will at some time face a decisive challenge. A chance to change the world. Climate change is our decisive challenge. And future generations depend on us."
The world stands at a crossroads. The latest report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is crystal clear in its findings. If we do not act immediately, we will not meet the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. This is a goal we must fight to achieve! Therefore, COP26 in Glasgow this November is the most important climate conference since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.
There is an urgent need for countries of the world to commit to major reductions in their greenhouse gas emissions and to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. This is especially true of the world’s largest emitters.
Denmark is working to ensure that we raise global climate ambitions at COP26 – and to make sure the ambitions are backed up by action. We are leading the way with our ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 70% by 2030, and with our innovative green solutions in wind, water, shipping and other sectors.
We are also increasing our financial assistance to developing countries for climate adaptation and the green transition. And we are working closely with businesses and international organisations to continuously push the world in a greener direction and keep the 1.5°C target within reach.

Climate finance
The developed countries have pledged to mobilise 100 billion USD annually for climate adaptation and green transition in developing countries. We must keep this promise. Denmark is leading the way and contributing at least 1% of the total amount.29.09.2021Read more -
Climate adaptation
Climate change is already affecting the world we live in. We must adapt to the changed climate – including adaptation of our housing and agriculture. But these efforts cost money. Developing countries and the UN Secretary-General have called for increased funding for climate adaptation. Therefore, Denmark will dedicate at least 60% of our climate finance for adaptation efforts.

Reduction
In Denmark, we have made great progress in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Much of the energy we use today comes from solar and wind power. But we intend to do even better. Our goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions with 70% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. This is one of the world’s most ambitious goals.

Climate diplomacy
Denmark’s own emissions of greenhouse gases represent only about 0.1% of total global emissions. Therefore, it would be impossible for Denmark to solve the climate crisis alone. Fortunately, we are not alone.Through diplomacy, Denmark is working to ensure that all the world’s countries – especially those who emit the most – accelerate the green transition.
